Asda Chilean Red Wine
£2.88 12.5% Red 5/5
Being part of Asda’s “Smart Price” brand I was keeping an open mind about this wine, as I’ve found the brand to be quite variable. On the good side there are products I buy week in, week out but others I wouldn’t touch with a barge pole.
So which category was this wine going to fall into? Well, I guess the rating gives it away doesn’t it?
Although there is precious little information about the wine itself on the bottle I’d guess at it being a Cabernet Sauvignon or a blend with predominantly Cabernet grapes.
There are no unpleasant tannins, and although the after-taste doesn’t linger there is plenty of flavour.
I drank the bottle unaccompanied and enjoyed it, but I’d say it would go well with pizza, ratatouille, stews and steak and ale pie.
At the price, there’s absolutely nothing to complain about - it’s a real bargain!
