Waitrose Sancerre - Cuvee des Anges 2005
Loire valley white wines, particularly the sauvignon blanc variety are a favourite of mine and this bottle of Sancerre 2005 from Waitrose is a very fine example. If I could afford the price it would be on my weekly shopping list, but I can’t so it won’t. A good friend saw it, bought it and gave it to me. I find it strange that he spends nearly £10.00 on a bottle, doesn’t even try it, but asks me for an opinion.
It sat atop the kitchen cupboards for most of January until, last night, having nothing else in the house it was brought into service. I admit to feeling guilty that I’d told my friend I’d find the time to bring it over to his place for a joint opinion. But desparate times require desparate measures so it got opened. Testimony to it’s quality it nearly got completely despatched, but black looks from the partner put a kerb on my enthusiasm.
Good job ‘n all, coz Ken turned up today and I was able to pour him a glass. He wasn’t as keen as me, feeling it was too dry for his tastes. But if you like your wines dry don’t be put off - this is a cracker. I even toyed with the idea of giving it a rating of 5. But caution (or call it timidity) awarded it a 4.
Seriously worth a try - and yes, that’s a recommendation. Waitrose details here.
