Christmas Greetings
Thanks for dropping by and may you have a very Merry Christmas and a brilliant New Year.
I was going to leave setting up this blog ’til after the festive season, but by sheer fluke I’ve managed to clear the decks work wise, and with the children in bed and nothing on the telly I thought, “Well, why not?”
A bit like the competition I’m running on the home page at the moment( you can win a case of wine) that was a “Well, let’s have a go and get it set up before Christmas” sort of a thing. I call it spontaniety, others would call it disorganised, but planning can be boring at times, and in my line of work I have to do rather a lot of it, so it’s refreshing to do something a bit rash now and then.
So, what have I got lined up in the wine department to help celebrate Christmas?
Let’s see, two Riojas, one red and one white.
The white is a 2004 Baron de Ley from Asda at £4.98. I can’t recall trying a white Rioja before but Christmas, to me, is a time for trying something different so I’ll leave my comments in the database just a soon as the last drop has been drunk.
BTW, if this is the first page you’ve arrived at let me explain. This site was setup a few months ago to enable anyone who wants to register to leave comments about the supermarket wines they’ve drunk so that other registered members can view the comments and decide if they want to try them too. And with everyone adding their own comments, hopefully, a rounded picture of these wines can be built up by the members for the members - Good idea? I think so… early days yet, though.
But I get side-tracked easily. So what about the red Rioja? Well now I’m cheating, because I’ve had this one before only a few months ago. A 2002 vintage,Campo Viejo again bought from Asda, but other supermarkets do sell it.
Crianza wines are two years old, with at least twelve months spent in cask, and in this case the grape varieties are Tempranillo, Grenache and Mazuelo.
Again, I’ll add it to the database but as a foretaste I can say it’s smooth and rounded, and I believe above average in the value for money stakes. £5.98.
Must wrap some more presents (aiming to have none to wrap on Christmas Eve) so I’ll call it a day, and if I don’t post anything else this side of Christmas, have a good one!
Cheers!
