My wife prefers the cheaper Asda Soave at about £2.58 a bottle, but I disagree.
Soave can be a fairly unexciting wine, whilst this one isn’t exactly memorable it avoids the slightly bitter, pithy taste that can characterise Soave.
It’s slightly sweet, but smooth and refreshing so you can drink it with or without [...]

Being part of Asda’s “Smart Price” brand I was keeping an open mind about this wine, as I’ve found the brand to be quite variable. On the good side there are products I buy week in, week out but others I wouldn’t touch with a barge pole.
So which category was this wine [...]

While I was grabbing a couple of videos to watch last night, I nipped across Blockbuster’s car park to pickup something cheap ‘n cheerful. Coming under the label of Sainsbury’s ‘Basics’ this Vino de Mesa £2.23 red has a blend of unspecified Spanish grapes.
Nothing exceptional here in an 11% strength light red, making it easily [...]

This spanish red from Tesco turned out to be something of a find for under a fiver.

Loire whites have been a long time favourite of mine, so when a friend brought this bottle round and gave it to me I was delighted to take it off his hands. I wasn’t disappointed.

Last week I decided to surprise the family by cooking something a little different - tagliatelle with spinach, mascarpone and parmesan, a recipe from Jamie Oliver’s “jamie’s dinners” cookbook. Delicious it was too. Page 188, BTW.
But I was quite surprised that the Sagramoso went so well with it. Not over-powering and very moreish. I don’t [...]

From the Asda “Extra Special” range this Masa Gua Pinot Grigio is well worth the £5.99 price tag.
It’s crisp and clean, with delicious citrus flavours. And it’s very drinkable, belying its 13.5% strength.
If I had to criticise it it would only be to wish the after-taste lingered a slightly longer.
I’ve had a poke around on [...]

Full marks to Asda for sorting out what was a nightmare experience when it came to trying to find out the price of a bottle of wine on their website.
Yes, it’s been a while since I last posted, but in that time Asda have obviously been busy carrying out some much-needed improvements.
I’ve just been to [...]

I don’t normally go near Chianti, because the next morning I end up with a heavy head I could do without, but this one surprised me.
None of the heaviness, and am I mistaken but is 12% for a Chianti on the low side?
At £3.49 Aldi have come up trumps in the cheap wine department, I’m [...]

OK, so I thought my previous post was going to be the last one today, but when I went to check the Asda website for the price of the Muscadet I fell foul of their ridiculous Web designer’s incompetence! Trust me, I mean it.
If you’re reading this site you’re probably British, right? And if you’re [...]
